Jasper Dobber: From Coffee to Office Furnishings at Nowy Styl
Published on 18-11-2024
After 8.5 years at Nespresso, Jasper Dobber (34), who recently became a father for the second time, decided it was time for a new challenge. With a background in Marketing, Communication, and Business Administration and a passion for sales, he took the leap into a new industry. We spoke with Jasper about his transition from coffee to office furnishings and his first experiences at Nowy Styl.
Searching for renewal
Jasper’s desire for change began to emerge when he realized he could no longer talk about his work enthusiastically at birthday parties. “At some point, I realized I was looking for a new challenge, but the idea of endlessly scrolling through Monsterboard or LinkedIn didn’t appeal to me at all. I opened up my profile and started exploring through my network,” Jasper explains. Sabine from Women in Sales eventually connected him with Nowy Styl. “Sabine is energetic and honest, exactly what I was looking for. It felt good to work with someone who is transparent.”
New ambitions in Sales Management
Jasper aspires to grow into a sales management role where he can train, coach, and manage his own team. The plans at Nowy Styl align perfectly with this ambition. “Before long, I want to build, train, and lead a team with a strong focus on new business through cold acquisition,” he explains. “My goal is to form a dynamic team where each individual can thrive.”
He emphasizes that cold acquisition doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all approach for success; leveraging someone’s unique strengths makes the difference. “With the right, highly trainable tools—like sharp need assessment, asking deeper questions, building bridges, and carefully structuring conversations—you eventually create a strong team that seizes every opportunity,” he explains. For now, Jasper is focused on securing great new clients to establish a solid foundation.
From ”What else” to something else
The farewell to Nespresso was businesslike and unemotional. “Of course, it’s a shame to leave behind great colleagues and clients, but you don’t have to say goodbye to most—you’ll keep them in your network anyway,” he says with a smile.
His start at Nowy Styl, however, came with an unexpected challenge: shortly after his introductory week at Nowy Styl’s headquarters in Poland, the birth of his second child was scheduled. Jasper managed his time, took a short leave, and quickly got back to work. “It was tough, but I wanted to make a good impression from day one,” he shares.
A showroom in the trunk?
At Nespresso, Jasper sold the experience of coffee—literally by placing a machine on trial at the office. At Nowy Styl, that’s not as straightforward. “I can’t just throw office furniture into my trunk to let clients try it out,” he laughs. His solution? Taking clients to the showroom in Poland and Amersfoort. “Sales is about experience, and that’s where you can really convey it.”
Energy and enthusiasm as keys to success
For Jasper, the right mood is essential in his work. Before stepping into a client meeting, he often listens to his Dutch party playlist to recharge. “I belt out a few songs in the car so I can walk into the meeting full of energy,” he shares. And that enthusiasm is contagious.
He feels completely at home at Nowy Styl and genuinely enjoys the challenges of sales, especially when it’s not an immediate yes. “Selling starts with a no,” says Jasper. His energy and determination to turn every no into a yes make him a force in his field.
